Jenny Karazissis is One, Two, Three in the USHJA National Hunter Derby, presented by Taylor Harris Insurance Services

Hope Town Farms' Undeniable and Jenny Karazissis

San Juan Capistrano, CA - With twenty-seven entries in Thursday's $5,000 USHJA National Hunter Derby, presented by Taylor Harris Insurance Services, Jenny Karazissis was undeniably tip top taking the first, second, third and eighth place ribbons. Liz Adler and Frank Willard judged the competitive class, with many top West Coast professionals vying to earn the top call in one of the final derbies of the Blenheim outdoor fall season.

The top 12 competitors returned to show off their handiness and efficiency over a second round course: Karazissis aboard her four horses, Tara Metzner aboard three; Peter Lombardo, Mickie Sage, Jamie Taylor, Jamie Sailor and Jill Humphrey also returned. The usual second round shake ups occurred; however, Karazissis held her top three spots throughout.

With a 94 and a 99, including high options, Undeniable (Hope Town Farms, owner) finished first with a total of 193. Gail Haft's Tip Top also scored high, a 93 and 95 for a 188 total, earning the red ribbon. Earning a 91 and a 92, Puissance R (owned by Lisa Hankin) ended with a 183 for third. Jamie Taylor, once a student of Karazissis' Far West Farms, rode Joelle Hylton's Rascal to the only other score totaling over 180, coming in a close fourth with an 89 and 91 for a total of 182.

Jenny Karazissis not only took home the trophy but Kost Karazissis picked up the Equitex Winning Trainer Award, with Hope Town Farms taking home the Balmoral Farm Winning Owner Award.

Groom Sergio Macias (pictured right) not only earned the Shapley's Best Turned Out Horse Award for his work on the winning horse Undeniable, but he also groomed the second and third placed horses, Tip Top and Puissance R.

Certainly a celebratory day for Far West Farms, Karazissis and Macias.

The One K Helmets High Score Amateur Derby Award went to Taylor Cusumano, who rides with Mike Edrick in Malibu and Kaitlyn Lovingfoss, who rides with Carolyn Culligan in Canyon Country, took home the cooler for The Plaid Horse High Score Junior Derby Award.
