Young Equines Earn Their Wings at the Showpark All Seasons Tournament
Del Mar, CA - Competing in the final rounds of the 2014 Young Jumper Championships, Western League, a host of young and talented jumpers rounded out the highlight classes at the Showpark All Seasons Tournament.

McArdle and Elicole Capture the Win in the Five-Year-Old Division
After Thursday and Saturday's qualifying rounds, twelve entries returned for the Final Round.

Jason McArdle aboard Fairbanks Valley Farms LLC's Elicole rode a smooth and fault-free course, the only pair to earn zero faults across all three rounds to claim the division title.

McArdle, the Five-Year-Old division defending champion, elaborated on his success with the young horses. "I don't start showing the five-year-olds until April or May, then just show them a little bit here and there to get them ridable and happy," he explained.

S Schaper Tilstra bred the KWPN mare out of Hamlet. "We bought Elicole as a four-year-old last year and I showed her in one class. She had the whole winter off and then started showing in April. She's been great so far. I can't complain!"

McArdle and Da's Mooi Man Continue Their Winning Ways in the Six-Year-Olds
With the same qualifying format followed throughout the week, eighteen entries competed the final round of the Six-Year-Old division. Five of the entries finished with fault-free scores throughout the three rounds, leading to a jump-off for the top prize.

Heather Olson on Orchard Hill Farm's Camillo returned first to the jump-off, turning in yet another clean round on the young mount in a time of 37.82 seconds. Michelle Parker and Volero (Annie Tame, owner) had a four fault score in a time of 34.60. Morgan Caplane jumped clear in 33.63 on her own All Shenanigans to take the lead.

Fresh off a win in the five-year-olds, not only earlier in the day but also on Fairbanks Valley Farms LLC's Da's Mooi Man in 2013, Jason McArdle returned to the jump-off on the championship mount. Proving his young horse program is working year after year, Da's Mooi Man jumped clean with McArdle in a time of 32.37 to take the lead and the Six-Year-Old title.

"I've had him since he was a two-year-old, and he was the easiest horse I ever broke," McArdle said of Da's Mooi Man, also a KWPN out of Zapatero VDL and bred by Th. Griffioen. "He's so fast and careful and has won every Young Jumper Classic this year so far before this Final. He loves to win."

Michelle Parker Pilots Cupilor to the Seven- & Eight-Year-Old Title
Seventeen seven-year-olds and five eight-year-olds competed in the final round of the 2014 Young Jumper Championships, Western League. Of the twenty-two total entries, five qualified with fault-free scores from all three rounds for the jump-off.

All five in the jump-off produced clear rounds, so the best time earned the top honors. Signe Ostby's Zafira, ridden by Eric Navet, was the first of four seven-year-olds set the time to beat at 33.63 seconds. Holly Scapa on her own Tarrabas Du Maraly was not quite fast enough in 35.69.

Guy Thomas on Hillary Bates' Calida 68 took over the lead, riding clean in 32.80. However, the final seven-year-old to return was Cross Creek Farms, LLC's Cupilor, with Michelle Parker in the irons. The pair sizzled around the jump-off stopping the clock in 32.08, taking the lead from Thomas by a fraction.

Last to return was the only eight-year-old in the jump-off, Lane Clarke on One Time (Mickey Hayden, owner) who turned in a time of 33.13, earning third.

Similarly to Da's Mooi Man, Cupilor earned a Young Jumper title in 2013 when he was six. Parker went into this year's final ensuring that he would be at his best.

"He was pretty competitive throughout the year, so I wanted to keep him healthy and ready for the Finals," Parker said of the Dutch Warmblood out of Lupicor and bred by GH Limburg. "We'll just keep moving up, he'll start the 1.40/1.45m classes next year."

With a solid turnout of young jumpers in each division, it is commendable to see the efforts made by owners and riders to produce quality and competitive show horses.
