Shawn Casady & Durango VDL Top the Field in the U25 Jumper Classic

San Juan Capistrano, CA – Carly Anthony and Clochard, owned by Neil Jones Equestrian, Inc., topped the field of 21 competitors in today’s $25,000 Markel Insurance 1.45m Jumper Classic. Shawn Casady rounded out the podium with second aboard Durango VDL and third on Campitello 5, both owned by Highpoint Farm, LLC.

First to go in the jump-off, Anthony’s inside turns and Clochard’s big stride led to a double clear performance in an impressive time of 37.55 seconds. Although Casady was also double clear on both his mounts, he could not catch Anthony and Clochard.

International course designer Michel Vaillancourt built a challenging 1.45m track on The Oaks International Grand Prix Field that included many related direct and bending lines, leading to just three fault-free rounds, one round with two time faults, and four riders with scores of four faults.

“I liked the course out there today. When I’m in a jump-off with Clochard my plan is always just to keep up with him and let him do his thing,” the winner explained. “Looking to the rest of the season with him, I’d like to keep having consistent rounds in these 1.45 classics and in the Saturday Grand Prix classes.”

Shawn Casady and Durango VDL Top the Field in the $2,500 Blenheim U25 Jumper Classic
Running concurrently with the Markel Insurance 1.45m Jumper Classic, Shawn Casady rode the gray stallion, Durango VDL, to the win in the $2,500 Blenheim U25 Jumper Classic.

“Durango is a very big horse with a very big stride. He jumped great in both rounds today,” Casady noted. “I look forward to competing with him and the rest of the horses throughout the season.”

Casady has taken over the reins for Tina Yates of Highpoint Farm, LLC, as she and her husband Craig are expecting their first baby in July. Known for his catch riding skills, Casady is handling the job well.
